This was purchased for my wife within the last few years and the bed is an iCare fully adjustable hospital bed with a Curocell A4 Cirrus alternating pressure mattress which aids in the prevention and treatment of pressure ulcers (also known as bed sores ) and for pain therapy.
Anyone who is confined to a bed or cares for someone confined to a bed will be aware of the constant danger of bed sores this mattress has a series of cells that alternate in pressure to avoid sores and the alternating pressure also acts as a massage therapy cause muscles kept in one position for prolonged periods can ache.
This mattress differs from other alternating-pressure mattresses cause it also is spongy and made with thick foam. The other alternating mattresses, if the power goes out, they deflate like an air mattress but with the unique design of the Curocell Cirrus, the patient won't end up on the bed frame.
The mattress size is roughly a King Single.
My wife had lymphedema and other issues and was mostly confined to bed this was quite roomy, wider than your typical hospital bed and has a recommended user weight of up to 230 KG.
The bed itself is fully adjustable and can be adjusted in all the usual ways.
The bed's adjustability is in perfect order.
As per the pics, if the patient finds themselves too far down the bed, the bed can be tilted at a steep angle so that the patient can use gravity to move back up the bed.
The bed can also be adjusted up and down to assist when performing a bed-to-chair transfer or bed-to-ambulance stretcher transfer.
Also, the head and knees can be moved up and down to assist the patient in sitting up in bed.
When this bed and mattress were ordered I remember the cost was well over ten thousand dollars.
It was ordered with a King single bed for me which was not adjustable.
The idea was to move our beds together at night but this meant the design could only accommodate an iCare Bed side rail on the right-hand side. This posed an issue for my wife, as she had nothing on her left side to hold on to if she needed to slide or roll over to the left, especially on her own. I made modifications to the bed, adding a short board on the left side allowing a side rail to be placed on this side as well. The side rails simply slide on and off and can be easily removed and easily placed back into position.
My wife's last visit to the hospital was late last year, she ended up in ICU and sadly passed away. I have been sleeping on her bed since and I can testify it is a lot more comfortable than the non-adjustable single bed I had been using and have slept well.
I hope to get some money for the bed and mattress - it is state of the art and will be a great aid for anyone confined to a bed for most if not all the time as my wife never incurred bed sores and the alternating pressure is therapeutic which I can also attest to. But most of all I would like it to go to someone who needs this bed.
It is imperative that you get your loved one the necessary aids asap if they are bed-bound and this bed and mattress will take care of their needs.
