Lympha-Sys9 Lymphedema draining System with Leg garments & Extensions
My wife suffered from severe lymphedema.
Lymphedema is swelling caused by a buildup of lymph fluid in the body between the skin and muscle. Lymph fluid is part of the lymph system, which plays a role in your body's ability to fight infection and disease.
Lymphedema can be attributed to a number of causes - it can be a result of surgery; cancer treatment; or post-polio syndrome often the reason may never be determined and it is a debilitating condition that has no cure but can be treated. Lymphedema can affect the arms or the legs. Often it is found in both legs and if not treated can make the patient immobile.
Fortunately, it can be treated with compression therapy such as what is offered in this system on offer - typically for patients where the lymphedema is in both legs, leg garments are placed over each leg and the machine effectively squeezes the leg from thigh to toe initially and then from toe to thigh to assist the flow of the lymphatic fluid and reduce the swelling and the overall effect of the Lymphedema. Typically the patient runs the machine for around 40 minutes a day.
The main unit and the leg garments were purchased via MEDI-RENT - an Australian supplier of the DS MAREF Lymphatic draining system. We purchased the unit and leg garments probably around 6+ years ago and it was evident that with regular use it did have an effect on her lymphedema. As well as the Leg Garments which are XL, there are a number of extension pieces included to make the garment fit when the lymphedema is severe.
The two leg garments are connected to the main machine via tubes which allows the two garments to connect to the machine. In some cases, the lymphedema might only pertain to one limb, say due to cancer treatment. There is another tube to allow just one garment to connect to the machine for this scenario.
My wife had not used the Lymphedema as she succumbed to other medical issues and sadly passed away recently. We purchased the machine and at the time it was around $1200. I can't remember if the garment was included but we ended up buying several extension pieces to address her severe lymphedema. The machine and garments were all in good working order the last time we used them.
